10
YEARS OF THE
FOXBURGH NATURAL HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE P.O.Box
19, Barnham Broom, Norwich, NR9 4BZ; Tel:(+44)
01603 759791, Fax:(+44) 01603 758207, e-mail: isabelle@foxburgh.co.uk. Hard
to believe BUT true!! It is amazing that I qualified with the very first therapy
– and first part on the road to becoming a naturopath - in May 1998. And I
must admit, it only seems yesterday, that I made the decision to change
directions, let alone to start studying and qualifying. Well, they say time
flies when you are having fun! Fun
it certainly was!!! Although, also extremely hard work and at times I did
question my wisdom. However, I have had ample reward in the pleasure of being
able to help all of my patients – even if it was in some cases only a little
bit. But it was always educational and ultimately humbling. My continued
education and my patients have taught me many a surprising thing. So
you see, a lot has happened in the last 10 years! Following is a little résumé
of the practice now. Fantaseyes, Brentford Lock, 153 – 188 The High Street, Brentford, TW8 8AQ As
already mentioned there were many surprises, one of which was the fact that I
was asked to help set up a health clinic in Brentford/London in 2006. As you can
imagine, I accepted and am now working on alternate Sundays and Mondays at
Classic Eyes -enjoying every minute. The mix between London and Norfolk is
working very well - both clinics are extremely busy – and are certainly
keeping me on my toes. Fra-Infra-Red-Sauna Many
of you know that I am a great fan of saunas & steam-rooms, and I have
prescribed it for many of you as an integral part of your treatment – mainly
to help with cleansing and lymphatic therapy. The “Rolls-Royce” of saunas is
the fra-infra-red-sauna, as it works from the inside out and can even be used by
someone with high blood-pressure. So, if patients find it too time consuming,
difficult or too costly, to have a fra-infra-red-sauna-session at the practice
as often as prescribed, there is now the possibility to rent a sauna for £15/week.
This would mean that one can have the ideal treatment, which is half and hour
every day. Insoles New
inventions or improved treatments are one of my main interests for the clinic
and so I am always on the look-out for better ways of treatment and/or
self-help. Coupled with the knowledge that we in the UK do not seem so concerned
with pro-action in any health/medical field as the Continent, I am always
“scouring” the Globe for innovations that could be of help and prevent
further “body”-damage. During one of my regular sweeps of information, I
came across a new type of insole. It is not an off-the-shelf item, but
individually fitted. Just to explain the thought behind insoles: your feet carry
your entire body weight from the moment you get up, to the moment you decide to
go to bed. From ordinary walking to jogging, etc. It affects the whole body.
Without the feet we can not stand. Now imagine that the feet are for some reason
not perfectly aligned, say the arch of the right foot has dropped by half a
centimetre. This means that the entire skeleton will now shift on the right half
a centimetre inwards (ie.to the left). By the time this half centimetre from the
right foot will have shifted the entire skeleton, it will have shifted up 2 cm
if not more to the left, by the time it reaches the neck. So, completely off
centre. This means that extra pressure will be put not only on the entire left
side of the body, but also on all the corresponding joints, making them wear at
different angles and shapes. No uniform usage any longer. The long term result
being a new hip- or knee-replacement and constant visits to the chiropractor to
help with the back pain. Come along the individually fitted insoles and this can
be prevented if done early enough, or halted and the new knee or hip joint
pushed into the future. Combined with good herbal and/or homoeopathic medication
(don’t forget I am a naturopath after all) this should be a pain free
experience! The beauty of these particular insoles is, that one does not have to
wait for weeks to have them done. With technology being what it is today, the
insoles can be fitted there and then while you wait at a total cost of £35.
Further, they can be remoulded up to 5 times to adjust to the foot as it
improves. Good value or what?! The Foxburgh Natural Health & Wellness Centre
is – so far – the only outlet in Norfolk where these insoles are available (
same for the next paragraph). Physicool
Bandages From
the same company that imports the insoles from Canada into the UK I have
received the Physicool ready made cooling bandage. It works wonders! It is a
bandage already impregnated with a special cooling liquid. You open the package,
squeeze the excess cooling liquid from the bandage and pop it onto the affected
limb, such as an ankle, knee, wrist etc. After 2 hours of cooling you roll it up
again and put it back into it’s little bag until next time. When needed again
you just need to add the cooling liquid and pop it on. My rugby playing nephews
have fallen in love with it, as it is not as cumbersome as the bag of frozen
peas (one can hardly move with those, AND it’s the 10min. on/10 min. off, that
causes them a problem. Also, a frozen bag of peas is not usually to hand during
a game). It is also said that the entire Arsenal football team are keen users.
At £12.95 for the starter pack (one ready to use bandage and one refill) it is
also excellent value and should be part of everyone’s first aid kit. Dorn
Method If
you are not so sure whether you want to see an osteopath or chiropractor (which
I think everyone should from time to time), you can always come for a
"Dorn" session. This is an extremely gentle method of manipulation
from the Continent and works in conjunction with a massage treatment. However,
for the really stubborn or seriously stuck cases the chiropractor is still the
best. Fra-Infra-Red-
Aqua-Detox Naturally,
I am always up-dating equipment, and so it will not surprise to you, that I have
up-graded the Aqua-Detox machine. I am still a very strong believer in Aqua-Detox
and am also a regular user of it myself. As per usual I will be offering the
customary 6 treatments for the price of 5 (£225 instead of £270). Usually, I
offer this detox special for a month at a time, starting at either the spring or
autumn equinox, as the body detoxes itself naturally at that time of year and is
happy for all the help it can get. However, as this is my 10th
anniversary, this offer will stand for the whole of 2008. What colour will your
water turn to? Day-light
lamp With
natural daylight not being in abundance now, and no real summers to speak of, we
are finding that many more cases of SAD (Seasonally Affected Disorder) are
coming to light. The body desperately needs daylight – or sunlight – to
function properly. It needs this light to convert or produce various vitamins
and hormones. These, in turn are important for the well-being of the whole body.
Luckily, science has now managed to produce a specific lamp, which produces or
simulates daylight. Hence, do not be surprised when I ask you after the
treatment, whether you would like to look out of the window into the blue
yonder, or if you wish to have a burst of daylight! Veridian
Nutritional Supplements Further
to always improving the treatments you receive, I am also always in search of
the best homoeopathic and herbal medicines. As far as the homoeopathic remedies
are concerned, Weleda and Steierl are still my first and most trusted choices.
However, for herbal medication I have been looking for a while for an
improvement. And there has been a remarkable one:Veridian! This is a company
which only uses organic or wild crafted herbs, tries to cut down on the
transport mileage, is into recycling AND gives part of it’s profits to
charity. The products are excellent; the fact that they donate money from their
profits to charity impresses me; and they try to make sure that everyone
recycles their glass bottles by giving 25p back to the purchaser when they
return the empty bottle. So, when I prescribe a herbal medication to you,
don’t forget to bring the empty bottle back to claim your refund! For further
information have a look at their homepage www.veridian-nutrition.co.uk
. Menopause
CD Finally,
I have almost managed to finish the promised CD on the menopause (available from
the 1st of March) – it’s cause and how to combat the symptoms. It
is on CD-Rom and costs £5 (plus p&p if ordered via mail order)- one can
also get a printed copy at £8 + p&p or via e-mail at £5. All available
from The Foxburgh Natural Health & Wellness Centre, as well as the Classic
Eyes Clinic in Brentford/London. Price
increase Unfortunately,
with all the prices rising around me, I have had to do the same. So, from March
1st the prices will be as follows: ½
hr £24, 3/4 hr £36, 1 hour £44, 1½ hrs £60 and 2 hrs £70 All
other prices will remain the same. So,
dear friends, the above are the most important news as to how the practice has
developed and what else is available. Naturally, the usual list of treatments
(remedial massage, clinical aromatherapy, scoliosis treatment, manipulation
according to the Dorn method, scoliosis treatments, reflexology, colour therapy,
pre- & post-natal massage, baby-massage, yoga classes to name just a few of
the disciplines of a naturopath) should not be forgotten. It just remains to be
said, that I still make some of the tinctures myself – particularly the Flower
Essences according to Dr Edward Bach. This last year I managed to make
Hawthorne, Dandelion, Calendula, Oak, Dog Rose, Rose Souvenir de la Malmaison
and Walnut. Further details about those are on the homepage www.foxburgh.co.uk.
Thank
you for being here and I hope, that I will see you again this year – not
necessarily for an emergency treatment BUT for maintenance to keep you well! Isabelle |
