Introduction
Why
yet another book on the menopause? As a naturopathic Iridologist, who
also uses remedial massage and quite a few other therapies, I am often
asked the most – to my patients – taxing questions. I do try and
answer all of them and research the ones, where I do not have the
answer. Like the old saying: ”the impossible we do at once, miracles
take a little longer”. And secondly, because I was getting several
patients, who, despite what their GPs had said, presented with severe
HRT side effects. One dangerously so. Here then, are the fruits of that
research, after yet another of my patients thought of this novel one:
“what happens after the change and how do I actually know it’s
finished?” So, strictly speaking this pamphlet is about what happens -
or at least an attempt to answer that and to help with alleviating some
of the symptoms as naturally as possible. As I am about half way through
the change - or the perimenopause to give it its correct name - myself,
I had no idea. Hence, I thought the best would be to ask a GP or
Gynaecologist. In total, I tried to speak to about 20 GPs, many
Gynaecologist and colleague naturopaths in various European countries
and – naturally - tried to find some information on the Internet. To
my surprise, no real joy at all. Some GPs never returned the calls or
e-mails; the same goes for the Gynaecologists. The ones, who did talk to
me, were full of information about HRT and the benefits and why one
really should take it. Surprisingly, one Gynaecologist actually
admitted, that HRT in total gets revised all the time and new versions
come to the market frequently. This, however, well before the research
for the safe use of them has been finished and thus there is some
element of danger due to the unknown facts about late after- or
side-effects. These facts are now beginning to “roll in”. The Moss
Report called “Cancer Decisions Newsletter” has published recent
research on the cancer dangers which are now appearing. Dr Moss’s
Internet site with relevance to this particular topic and the newsletter
by Dr David Williams, who has also published research in this vein are
very interesting! Dr Williams stated in the section “new health
breakthroughs” that there had finally been a large-scale study into
HRT and cancer links with 16,000 women taking part. The result became
obvious quite quickly. The hormones and treatments had caused so many
extra cases of breast cancer, strokes, blood clots and heart attacks, to
name but a few of the problems, that the study was cancelled 3 years
early (out of a total of 5 planned years) to protect the remaining
participants. There is now a lot of information available on the
Internet, regarding the link between HRT and cancer. However, back to
the above mentioned gynaecologist, who at 72 years of age is still
taking an HRT gel and felt that she really could not live without it.
She stated that it made her feel “more of a woman” (whatever that
may mean). ……………
